Seymour grad hoping to win bodybuilding title – Seymour Tribune

Image
By Dylan Trimpe Finding time to go to the gym isn’t the hard part for competitive bodybuilder Stephen Holt. It’s the nutrition. The 2014 Seymour High School grad scoffs at the idea of not being able to find time to work out and that his desire to improve himself makes it easy to get through the daily grind of going to the gym. But ask him if he enjoys eating the same baked chicken breast with a side of broccoli and he’ll groan at the idea. “Most people think the gym part is the hard part,” Holt said. “It’s not. The diet is the hard part.” He even goes as far as to compare the intensity of eating his meals to his weight training. “If you want to be successful in this sport, you have to treat every time you stick a fork in a chicken breast like it’s your training,” he said. Holt’s work ethic earned him two top prizes at the Aug. 3 Indianapolis Championships in Novice Classic Physique and in the Open Classic categories. He’s now turning his attention to the Indiana State Bodybu...

Image
Dorian Yates is one of the most legendary bodybuilders of all time. However, he does not train like a bodybuilder anymore, despite being in phenomenal shape. Yates is a six-time Mr. Olympia champion, who has been around the bodybuilding game for a long time. He holds the fifth most titles in Olympia history, where he competed in his prime from 1992-1997. At age 57, he still manages to maintain an amazing physique. Unfortunately, injuries forced Yates to retire, perhaps earlier than he would have liked. So with all the injuries, it is no wonder why Yates would have had to change up his training style. In an interview with MD Global,  he gave a bit of an explanation on what training he employs now, and what led him to that point. “Probably five years ago, I was still doing what I could, as far as bodybuilding training, but it was limited. I was doing what I was used to doing, doing the bodybuilding training. I was limited because I’ve got a bicep and tricep injury on my left...

Core asset – THE WEEK

Image
Staying in good shape is a must for fashion models, for you never know when you could be called for a bare body shoot, says Prathamesh Maulingkar. Having won the Mister Supranational 2018, the 28-year-old Goan cannot take part in pageants for the next five years. But that hasn’t kept him from gruelling core workouts. “You have to be ready all the time. That’s what keeps me going,” says Maulingkar, an avid footballer and cricketer who got into modelling after an injury kept him from sports for a long time. “Also, for a tall person, strengthening the core is all the more important. You tend to get a lot of injuries if your core is not strong.” If you want to get a defined core with your abs popping out, try weighted crunches, suggests Maulingkar. “This involves holding dumbbells or a plate while doing your crunches. It is more difficult than normal crunches as there is weight involved. But it can work your muscles more and make your abs bigger,” says Maulingkar, who won the Mr India ...

Like any multi-sports Games, athletics, swimming and gymnastics received the lion’s share of attention in Lima while the likes of artistic skating, bowling and Basque Pelota were played out in front of a handful of curious spectators. There can have been few athletes competing at the Games with bigger smiles than the two Salvadorian champions who, along with dozens of International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) officials, basked in the moment. “I am making history this is the first time. My name is immortal. I’m the first Pan American bodybuilding champion,” declared an overjoyed Rodriguez. “This is a well-deserved dream to be in the Olympics. There is not enough tim...

But I didn’t know how to change myself.” Simone never knew her dad, and her mother was a prostitute while she was enrolled in some of Australia’s most exclusive boarding schools. “She left her third husband, and she couldn’t pay my boarding school fees,” Simone recalls. “She took me out as a day student at St Hildas [on the Gold Coast] in Year 10.
